Encouraging Parental Participation

Bloorview School Council was established in 1996 as mandated by the Ministry of Education. The School Council works with the principal and Board to:

  • Make the school a better place for learning
  • Assist with communication between the school and the families
  • Respond to educational issues and concerns
  • Encourage participation of families in the school life of their child
  • Ensure representation on School Council of the diversity within the school community
  • Link the school and community

Bloorview School Council has a membership comprised of parents, community representatives, therapy and school staff members. The Council meets regularly to discuss issues of common interest and makes recommendations to the principal on topics such as:

  • School and classroom organization
  • Staffing
  • Lunchroom program
  • Protocols for educational field trips
  • Policies and Procedures
  • School Strategic Plans
  • Transition of students to the local school system
  • School year calendar
  • Student dress code
